Drinking Water Bowsers

We are often asked "what's the difference between a bowser and a static tank?" A Bowser is simply a tank on wheels. There are various types of bowsers but the main distinction is either site bowsers or highway bowsers. Site bowsers range from 250 litres to 5000 litres they are not road going and generally are not for holding drinking water hence why we do not hold stocks for hire.

Highway bowsers are road going. However not all highway bowsers are suitable to carry Drinking water. They may be the same shape and sometimes even the same colour (light Blue) but the only bowsers we have for hire are for purposes of transferring drinking water are regulation 31 approved.

Watermills deliver water via bowser or on occasions, where necessary, leave a bowser on site which will be suitable for holding potable (wholesome) drinking water. They provide a fast & flexible solution where a small quantity of wholesome water is required.

We use only use very tough 4x4 vehicles designed to tow full tanks min weight is approx 2 ton the max 4 x 4 towable weight we will deploy is 3.5 ton. Sizes available are 1200 litres and 2000 litre capacities.

Water_bowser_trailerWherever possible we tow our bowsers empty to reduce the fuel consumption of the vehicle keeping the carbon footprint to the minimum. Once we are close to the point of discharge we will fill at the closest possible designated urban filling point that our abstraction licence will permit. The same applies for our Tankers.

Typical bowser usages are replenishments of our hired tanks, filling and replenishing of pillow tanks in remote areas where larger trucks do not have access for example cleaning of radio masts situated on mountains or big hills.

Bowser2 smWe also use bowsers for soakaway tests for geotechnical companies, film sets where the location is never static for longer than a day or so. Areas where a static tank cannot be deployed because there is no access for a mobile crane of all terrain forklift.
